Frequently asked questions
Are dental implants permanent?
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution. With good oral hygiene and regular dental care, the implant itself can last many years. The crown attached to the implant may need replacing over time due to normal wear.
Is there an age limit for dental implants?
There is no upper age limit for dental implants. Suitability depends on your overall health, bone quality and the condition of your mouth rather than on age alone, so adults of many ages may be considered after a proper assessment.
How do implants compare to dentures or bridges?
Dental implants are fixed in place and do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support. Unlike dentures, they do not need taking out for cleaning. We may recommend implants if you want a stable option that supports normal biting and speaking; if a bridge or denture is the better choice for you, we will say so.
Can I be sedated if I'm nervous?
Yes. Our in-house consultant anaesthetist can sedate you safely and comfortably, so you'll have little to no memory of the procedure and no awareness of how long it takes. It's a popular choice with patients who want treatment to be as comfortable as possible.
